The first camera bag on this list is a backpack. The backpack is best for those photographers and videographers who loved minimalism and follow it.

As you know Think Tank is a well-known brand in the field of manufacturing quality camera backpacks. If you choose  ThinkTank Backstory then think about other than quality and durability.

Look & Feel:  The overall look of this camera bag is simple but practical.

Storage: It has enough space to carry two cameras, three lenses, filters, and other accessories. Not the end you can carry a 16″ MacBook pro inside its separate padded Laptop compartment. Two large mesh pockets on its back flap opening allow you to carry SD cards, extra batteries, Cables, etc.

Its top zipper opening also has a small mesh zipper pocket to carry additional gear.

The backpack is available in two sizes ThinkTank Backstory 13, and 16

The main camera compartment is insane. It has nice padded and fully adjustable dividers. I’m using three lenses with my R5 which are Canon RF 15-35, 24-70, and 70-200 2.8 lenses. Still, it has enough space for flash, filters, etc.

Its front zipper pocket has another zipper mesh pocket. It has two dedicated compartments to carry a 10″ tablet and a 16 inches laptop.

The other zipper front pocket allows you to carry sunglasses and your mobile, and keep them strach-free due to the presence of microfiber lining under this compartment.

If its front allows you to carry a tripod that can be attached by using a monopod strap.

Accessibility:  Backpack from ThinkTank keep in mind the complete safety and security of your Camera and gear. The camera bag is top and back accessible. A wide u shape zipper opening allows you to see everything inside it in one sight.

The back opening also keeps your camera gear safe from dust, and water when you put your backpack on the ground.

Safety: The backpack comes with cushioned divider pillow. I found this divider pillow really helpful to reduce the impact on your expensive camera when you put it on a hard surface. This works perfectly to provide security and a snug fit for your camera and gear.

The backpack comes with a waterproof rain fly that keeps your camera as well as all the gear dry and safe.

Comfort: Its shoulder straps are made of Ultra Spandex foam and its back panel has airmesh-covered foam with padded lumbar support

You also have the freedom to attach or detach its waist belt and sternum straps as per your convenience.

Overall the camera bag is very versatile, and durable, and has plenty of thoughtful pockets and organizers to make your journey way more comfortable with your R5.

Pros

  • Made of high quality and durable 500D-tone polytech nylon.
  • Abrasion resistance YKK zippers.
  • Comes with WRD coating and a rain cover.
  • Tons of thoughtful pockets and padded adjustable dividers for your camera.
  • Thick cushioned pillow for impact resistance to your camera.
  • Ultra Spandex foam in its shoulder straps and air mesh cover on the back make it a comfortable camera backpack.

Cons

  • Expensive
  • The backpack comes with WDR coating however it is not mended for a torrential downpour.
  • Every time you want to access your camera or other gear, you have to take it off.

2. Peak Design Travel Line Backpack (45L)

Rating:
4.7/5
Peak Design Travel Line Backpack
best buy

Features

  • Internal Dimensions: 27 W x 43 H x 15 D cm
  • External Dimension: 28 x 50 x 19 cm
  • Volume:
  • Weight: 3.6 lbs (1.6 kg)
  • Warranty: Limited Lifetime Warranty

I personally love Peak Design. Their camera bags come with innovative designs and skilled handcraftsmanship.

Look and Feel:

The backpack is made of high-quality durable material. Its external shell is made of 400D Nylon with DWR and double poly coating to ensure that water can’t penetrate its body.

Its bottom lining is made of 900D nylon which is also waterproof. It means the backpack can penetrate water drops over its surface very well.

I didn’t use it in heavy rain but I would prefer using its external rain cover for that.

I really like its collapsible design, Normally it acts as a 35L camera backpack, but you can compress its size and make it a 30L daypack if you want to pack it light, and if you have tons of camera gear to put on it can be expanded to a 45L travel pack.

I’ve hardly seen that kind of flexibility in any other camera backpack.

Storage:

The backpack is available at 45 little capacity with compress and expands capacity. I usually carry Mavic 3 Pro, RF 15-35, RF 100mm F/2.8 L, and RF 70-200MM F/2.8 L in its main camera compartment. Apart from its camera space, it has one bonus space at the top of this compartment.

It has one separate nicely padded compartment to carry Macbook Pro 16 inches. Hidden zip pockets are good to carry credentials safely and securely. It has a large mesh pocket on its flap opening, which provide more space to carry extra stuff.

One nice hip belt pocket is good to carry small things. Its side pockets are large enough to carry one water bottle on one side and one tripod on another side.

Accessibility:

This is the segment where peak design did a great job.

Its main compartment can be accessed from the back, top, and sides.

But I don’t like both sides’ accessible pockets because it creates confusion about what gear is on which side.

Comfort:

The backpack is best for a 3 to 4 days trip. It has a stowaway hip belt and sternum straps for even weight distribution. To ensure you won’t feel tired during all day busy shooting schedule, it has Axial straps that can be adjusted.

Warranty

The good thing about a backpack is how a company stands on its promise as committed. Peak-design backpacks come with a lifetime warranty. One of my friends got a replacement for his peak design backpack after two years of heavy use that had torn from the bottom.

Pros

  • Promising warranty service.
  • Normal size 35L, compressed size 30L  that becomes 45L after expansion.
  • Durable, sturdy, waterproof, and versatile camera backpack for R5.
  • Back, Top, and side accessibility options.
  • It retains its shape due to ultralight padded foam when you grab it with its handle or keep it on the ground.
  • Tons of storage pockets and customizable camera space.
  • Side water bottle pockets are large enough that can also hold a tripod.

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Dual-side access is quite confusing. Sometimes you don’t know which side holds which gear. It also wastes your time when you are in hurry.
  • A rain cover is not included.

3. LowPro ProTactic TLZ 70 (R5 with lens & Battery Grip Attached)

Rating:
4.5/5

Features

  • External Dimensions: 20 x 19.5 x 26cm
  • Camera Compartment Dimension: 16 x 15.5 x 20.5 cm
  • Volume: 4L
  • Weight: 1.54 lbs (0.7 kg)
  • Warranty: Limited Consumer Warranty

Carrying a heavy and bulky camera bag everywhere is not practical. On most occasions, a photographer doesn’t want the hassle to take the camera and lens out from a bag and attach them for a shoot.

A small and compact camera bag seems very handy when you don’t have much time for assembling and disassembling of camera and lens.

Photographers want this when they pull the camera out of a camera bag they should be ready for the shoot, and when the shoot is over they just put the whole setup inside it.

After hours of research, I found Lowpro ProTactic TLZ 70. The camera bag is perfect to carry R5 with an attached battery grip and RF 100-500 mm lens.

Look & Feel:

It feels very durable and sturdy on hand. A small and compact form factor makes it perfect for what a photographer needs on specific shooting days. I think some kind of ballistic nylon is used on its body. The overall finish and stitching are good.

Storage:

It has enough space to carry a Canon R5 with a battery grip and a 100-500 mm lens attached but there is no space to carry additional gear.

Its top flap opening contains one mesh pocket for carrying SD cards, some extra batteries, etc.

If we compare it with its previous model which is Lowpro Toploader Pro 70 AW then it has no front pocket to add a lens cover, SD cards, and other gear. I don’t understand why the company did cost-cutting by reducing extra space on this model.

Accessibility:

The camera bag is top accessible. You can pull the whole setup out immediately when you want. This minimizes the hassle of assembly and disassembly of cameras and lenses.

Safety:

The LowPro ProTactic comes with a weather protection cover, that keeps your Canon R5 safe from dust, dirt, and water vapors in drizzling rain.

Comfort:

You can wear this camera bag in 4 ways:

  1. On Shoulder.
  2. Holster Style.
  3. Chest Harness.
  4. On Your Belt.

It has two straps and one chest harness, that can be worn under your backpack harness.

Overall this could be the perfect camera bag for those photographers and videographers who want a flexible, and compact camera bag that build to speed up their work.

Pros

  • A durable, and compact camera bag to carry R5 with an attached battery grip and lens.
  • All weather protection cover is included.
  • Expandable bottom to carry a large-size lens attached.
  • There are 4 ways to wear it.
  • Budget Friendly.

Cons

  • Limited space for other gear.
  • Seems bulky when loaded with a DSLR with a 24-70mm lens attached.
